Hägendorf is located at 434 m above sea level, 5 km west-southwest of the district capital Olten. The village stretches across the plain at the foot of the southern Jura, at the outlet of the Cholersbach stream from the Teufelschlucht gorge into the Dünnern valley, in the so-called Berggäu. The 13.9 km² municipal area encompasses a section of the Solothurn Jura and exhibits great landscape diversity. The southern municipal border largely follows the canalized course of the Dünnern.
